1. The Peking Taxi Rate Explained Simply
Officially Set
The Peking taxi rate was officially set on June 18, 2019. Taxi tariffs in China are officially set by cities or districts. The taxi tariff Peking was last set in June 2019 and published in the official tariff ordinance. It is binding for all taxis and taxi companies within the compulsory driving area and may not be exceeded or undercut. This is ensured by officially calibrated taximeters installed in the taxis.
How the fare is made up under the Peking taxi rate:
The taxi tariff in Peking operates with different charges for daytime and nighttime. During the day, from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm, the base fare is ¥14.00. This base fare covers the first 3.00 kilometers of your journey. For any distance up to 12 kilometers during the day, each additional kilometer after the base distance is charged at ¥2.30. If your ride is longer than 12 kilometers, the price for each further kilometer is ¥3.45. If the taxi is stuck in traffic or waiting, the fee is ¥34.50 per hour during the daytime.
At night, from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am, the tariff changes slightly. The base fare is ¥16.60, which also includes the first 3.00 kilometers of travel. For trips up to 12 kilometers, every additional kilometer after the base distance costs ¥2.76. If the total distance exceeds 12 kilometers, the charge for each further kilometer is ¥3.45. The waiting fee at night is ¥37.50 per hour.
When you take a taxi in Peking, your fare will be calculated based on these steps: the meter starts with the base fare, covering the initial 3.00 kilometers. Additional distance is then charged at the relevant per-kilometer rate, depending on whether your journey is during the day or at night, and on the overall length of your trip. If there is waiting time or heavy traffic, extra charges will apply at the hourly waiting rate.
Understanding this fare structure helps passengers know how their taxi fare in Peking is determined. All prices are calculated in CNY (¥), so passengers can easily track the cost of their journey according to the time of day, distance, and any waiting time.
