1. The Oslo Taxi Rate Explained Simply
Officially Set
The Oslo taxi rate was officially set on January 1, 2024. In Norway, cab prices have traditionally been set by the individual cab companies, which has led to significant price differences. To counteract this and protect passengers from unreasonably high and unpredictable costs, the Norwegian government has decided to introduce temporary maximum prices for cab rides in urban areas from January 1, 2025. This measure applies in particular to journeys that have not been booked in advance, such as hailing a cab on the street. The Norwegian Ministry of Transport is responsible for setting and monitoring these maximum fares. The introduction of the maximum fares is initially limited to one year. If the measures do not have the desired effect, the government reserves the right to extend the regulation.
How the fare is made up under the Oslo taxi rate:
The taxi tariff in Oslo is designed to be clear and straightforward for all passengers. When you begin a trip in a taxi, a base fare of 93.00 NOK is charged as soon as your journey starts. This base fare is a standard starting cost for every ride, regardless of the distance you plan to travel.
As the taxi moves, each kilometer traveled is charged at a rate of 15.75 NOK per kilometer. This rate applies for every kilometer after your journey begins. The total distance you travel will be measured, and the charge will be added to your fare automatically as the journey continues.
If your taxi needs to wait for you during the journey, there is a waiting time charge. The waiting time is priced at 425.00 NOK per hour. This charge applies if the taxi is stopped or moving very slowly, such as in heavy traffic or when waiting for you at a pickup location.
In summary, the total fare for a taxi ride in Oslo is calculated by adding the base fare, the distance traveled, and any waiting time. This system helps passengers understand exactly how their fare is determined and ensures transparency while using taxi services in Oslo.
