1. The Madrid Taxi Rate Explained Simply

Officially Set

The Madrid taxi rate was officially set on January 1, 2024. Taxi tariffs in Spain are officially set by cities or districts. The taxi tariff Madrid was last set in January 2024 and published in the official tariff ordinance. It is binding for all taxis and taxi companies within the compulsory driving area and may not be exceeded or undercut. This is ensured by officially calibrated taximeters installed in the taxis.

How the fare is made up under the Madrid taxi rate:

The taxi tariff of Madrid sets out how taxi fares are calculated for passengers. The fare you pay depends on the day and time of your ride. From Monday to Friday, between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm, the day rate applies. For these trips, the base fare at the start of your ride is 2.55€. After this, each kilometer traveled costs 1.35€. If the taxi is stationary or moving very slowly, waiting time is charged at 26.50€ per hour.

During the night, from Monday to Friday between 9:00 pm and 7:00 am, and for the entire day on Saturdays and Sundays, the night rate applies. For these trips, the base fare is 3.20€. The price for each additional kilometer is 1.50€. Waiting time per hour during these periods is charged at 28.50€.

Special fares apply for trips between all terminals at Madrid Barajas Airport (Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4) and destinations within the M30 ring highway, or vice versa. For these journeys, a fixed rate of 33.00€ is charged, which includes VAT.

The total taxi fare is calculated by adding the base fare at the beginning of your trip to the charges for the kilometers traveled. If your taxi is delayed due to traffic or is stationary, waiting time charges may also apply. For trips to or from Madrid Airport within the specified area, the fixed price replaces the regular metered fare.
