1. The Leicester Taxi Rate Explained Simply

Officially Set

The Leicester taxi rate was officially set on January 12, 2011. Taxi tariffs in Great Britain are officially set by cities or districts. The taxi tariff Leicester was last set in January 2011 and published in the official tariff ordinance. It is binding for all taxis and taxi companies within the compulsory driving area and may not be exceeded or undercut. This is ensured by officially calibrated taximeters installed in the taxis.

How the fare is made up under the Leicester taxi rate:

The Leicester taxi tariff sets out the fares that passengers can expect to pay when using local taxis. The charges depend on the time and day your journey takes place. A daytime rate applies from Monday to Saturday between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm. At all other times, including Sundays and nights, a different rate applies.

For journeys during the daytime period, the fare starts with a base charge of £4.00. This base fare covers the first 1.00 km of your trip. If your journey goes beyond this distance, you will pay an additional £1.50 for every extra kilometre travelled. If the taxi is stationary or moving slowly, such as in heavy traffic, waiting time is charged at £21.60 per hour.

For nighttime or Sunday journeys, a base fare of £4.80 applies, which also covers the first 1.00 km. For each kilometre travelled after this, the cost is £1.80 per km. The waiting time rate remains the same as during the day, at £21.60 per hour.

With the Leicester taxi tariff, your total fare is calculated based on the time of your journey, the total distance travelled, and any waiting time. This structure helps passengers understand and anticipate the likely cost before starting their trip.
