The Hanoi taxi rate was officially set on January 1, 2024. Starting January 1, 2025, passengers in Vietnam will be able to negotiate taxi fares directly with drivers. This change is part of Decree No. 158/2024/ND-CP, which regulates road transportation and sets specific guidelines for taxis. Regardless of the agreed fare, companies are required to issue electronic invoices at the end of each trip and submit them to tax authorities. Additionally, taxis must display either a "TAXI" rooftop sign or reflective stickers with the same label on their front and rear windshields. These measures aim to allow more flexible pricing while ensuring compliance with tax regulations.

How the fare is made up under the Hanoi taxi rate:

The Hanoi taxi tariff provides a clear way to understand how your taxi fare is calculated. When you start your journey, there is an initial base fare of 19,000.00 VND. This amount is charged at the beginning of every ride, regardless of the distance you intend to travel.

After the base fare, the cost of your trip depends on the distance traveled. For every kilometer after the initial charge, the fare increases by 15,000.00 VND per kilometer. This rate applies to all further distances, so the longer your journey, the more you pay according to the distance covered.

If your taxi must wait during the trip, there is a waiting time charge. For each hour that the taxi is stationary or waiting, the fare includes an additional 42,500.00 VND. This helps cover times when the taxi is not moving but is still reserved for you.

The Hanoi taxi tariff is designed to be straightforward. When planning your trip, you can estimate your fare by adding the base fare, the cost for each kilometer traveled, and any waiting time charges if there are periods when the taxi is not in motion. All charges use only VND, making it easy to understand the total cost of your taxi ride in Hanoi.
