The Doha taxi rate was officially set on June 24, 2023. In Qatar, taxi fares are regulated by the state-owned transport company Mowasalat (Karwa) in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

How the fare is made up under the Doha taxi rate:

The taxi tariff in Doha is based on a clear and simple structure. When you start your journey in a taxi, you will be charged a base fare of 7.00 QAR. This base fare covers the initial entry into the taxi, before the distance or waiting time charges begin.

After the base fare, the trip cost increases according to the distance traveled. For every kilometer you travel beyond the initial start, the price is 1.60 QAR per kilometer. This rate applies for all distances throughout your journey. The total distance you travel will be measured, and you will be charged accordingly.

If the taxi is stationary or moving very slowly, such as during heavy traffic or at traffic lights, there is a separate waiting time charge. This waiting time is charged at a rate of 16.00 QAR per hour. The meter in the taxi automatically calculates this based on actual waiting or slow-moving periods.

The total fare for your trip is the sum of the base fare, the distance traveled at 1.60 QAR per kilometer, and any waiting time at 16.00 QAR per hour. The taxi tariff of Doha ensures that passengers pay according to both distance and time spent in the vehicle, offering a transparent way to calculate your journey cost.
