The Delhi taxi rate was officially set on February 1, 2025. Taxi tariffs in India are officially set by cities or districts. The taxi tariff Delhi was last set in February 2025 and published in the official tariff ordinance. It is binding for all taxis and taxi companies within the compulsory driving area and may not be exceeded or undercut. This is ensured by officially calibrated taximeters installed in the taxis.

How the fare is made up under the Delhi taxi rate:

The taxi tariff of Delhi is based on the time of day and distance travelled. The daytime rates are valid every day from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm. During this period, the base fare is Rs 40.00, which covers the first 2.00 km of your journey. For every additional kilometre after the first 2.00 km, you will be charged Rs 20.00 per km. If your taxi is waiting or moving slowly in traffic, there is a waiting charge of Rs 30.00 per hour.

Night rates apply every day between 11:00 pm and 5:00 am. The base fare for night rides is Rs 50.00, which also includes the first 2.00 km of your trip. For each additional kilometre travelled after 2.00 km, the charge is Rs 25.00 per km. If the taxi is waiting during night hours, the waiting charge is Rs 37.50 per hour.

To calculate the total fare for your ride with the Delhi taxi tariff, begin with the base fare, which covers the first 2.00 km. Multiply the distance beyond 2.00 km by the applicable per kilometre rate (day or night rate, depending on your time of travel). If your trip includes periods of waiting or slow movement, add the waiting charges based on the total waiting time.

This system ensures passengers in Delhi understand exactly how their fare is calculated at any time of day. Before starting your journey, you can ask the driver to confirm whether the day or night rates will apply based on your travel time.
