It is binding for all taxis and taxi companies within the compulsory driving area and may not be exceeded or undercut. This is ensured by officially calibrated taximeters installed in the taxis.

How the fare is made up under the Budapest taxi rate:

The Budapest taxi tariff is simple and easy to understand. When you start a ride, there is a base fare of 1,100.00 Ft. This amount covers the initial cost as soon as you enter the taxi, before the journey begins.

After the base fare, each kilometer traveled is charged at 440.00 Ft. The taxi meter will add this charge for every kilometer during your trip. This applies to the full distance you travel, starting from your pick-up point to your destination within Budapest.

If the taxi is waiting for you, such as during heavy traffic or when the car is stopped, a waiting time charge applies. The waiting fee is 6,600.00 Ft per hour. The taxi meter calculates this amount according to the time spent waiting, and the cost is added to your total.

All charges are calculated in HUF (Ft) and must be paid in this currency. The Budapest taxi tariff ensures that the fare is made up of the base fare, the distance traveled, and any waiting time. You can ask the driver for a receipt at the end of your journey to see a clear breakdown of the charges.
